TV Series 1980s `Barriers`

Can anyone remember a TV series called `Barriers`? This is something I used to watch on occassion and always enjoyed but never actually saw the first, or for that matter the last episode.

What I recall is the start of the program where a Mercedes is being chased and crashes and bursts into flames. The plot I think is a boy looking for his Father in East Berlin and as he gets nearer the truth as to what happened to his father each week, he hits another brick wall.

Does this ring a bell with anyone? Is this available on DVD or VHS?
