Opportunity Knocks
I watched Op Knocks relgiously as a child, I couldnt stomach Hughie Greene, but I look back on the show with affection, despite its obvious tackiness.
Everyone remembers Tony Holland, Mary Hopkin, Lena Zavoroni and Peters and Lee, but who remembers other winners like Gerry Munro who had a hit single with Gracie Fields Sally, Stepehen Smith and Father, Neil Read., Second City Sound.
There was one guy with the surname of Prince, who was a winner he used to sing light operatic numbers anyone recall him, might have been a bit in the John Hanson mould but my memory is a little foggy on his actual repotoire.
I remember a feature of Op Knocks in the seventies was a special show where they encouraged budding writers to write one act plays, these were peformed by a professional cast becuase I remember Anthony Jackson of Bless This House fame being in one.
Other memories include, Hughie Greene peforming a corny patriotic speach aciompanied by some music, I am sure he made a record of this.
P.J. Proby also turned up in disguise billed as The Masked Singer.
