I will never forget an obituary of Anne George in the "Daily Telegraph." or "Times.", referring to her time on Crossroads the obiturary said,"Her somewhat idiosyncratic grasp of the script edeared her to millions of viewers."

When Diane married Chris Hunter.

A lof of the characters in Crossroads in the seventies were exceedingly dreary, Jane the Salvation Army girl, that miserable Wilf Harvey and Kathy Staff as Miss Luke.

At least there was a little bit of humour with characters such as Carnie(Jack Woolgar) and Archie Gibbs (Jack Haig.)

aye I agree there bh, in he beginning for many years coronation street was funny, and entertaining , then the stories got more sinister and daft to be honest. and they just lost it.

I've got those, I bought them for my Mrs, they are great fun, I enjoy the black and white episodes which they have managed to unearth.

That is a very good point, where did they go. I recall seeing the actor who played Stan Harvey turn up in Corrie many years later.

One or two from Emmerdale suffered a similar fate, I remember seeing Ian Sharrock who played Jackie Merrick in a play in Caridff, but heard little of him after, he did play an obsessive fan of Alan Partridge in "i'm Alan Partridge," but other than that nothing.

I lived in Birmingham, for quite a few years, when Crossroads was at its height of popularity. I appeared in a few episodes as various guests, and knew most of the actors, they were a great bunch. Ann George, (Amy Turtle) was lovely, she actually told me that she loved being an actress, but was absolutely useless at learning lines! Most of her scenes were purposely filmed around the reception desk, so she could do a bit of dusting while reading her lines off the desk! I remember one day it was someone's birthday, and after filming, we all ended up in a gay club called The Nightingale, which was in a street called Camp Hill! Ann George was all dolled up, even wearing a mink coat, well we all got well and truly bladdered. At the end of the night we're all dancing to Donna Summer's - Macarthur Park. I'm dancing with Noele Gordon and all of a sudden I get a tap on the shoulder and an excuse me and the next minute Noele is dancing with Anita Harris! Apparantly Noele batted for the other side. I heard that The Killing of Sister George was based on her. Happy days!!!

John Forgeham was in a few episodes in the 70's - he's done alright.

I miss Crossroads - when they brought it back it was equally hilarious..ahem..I was one of the writers put forward to try out for it..but it folded before I got very far..

There was an actress in the new 'Crossroads' - a lead female, pretty blonde who was either a genius plant by some wag being ironic or someones girlfriend because she took Amy Turtle's approach to performance to new heights...
As things went along it just got too embarrassing and they had to find a way to cut her out completely even though she had a pivotal role..

Straight after one of the writers referred to this in the script by having a character say - 'Oh I remember whatsername - was it me or did you get the impression there wasn't a lot going on behind the eyes..?

Ouch! Actually I thought that was a bit mean..
