The problem with the old comedy shows that do get re-run (in Australia), the idiots in control, whoever they are, add canned laughter! I couldn't watch the last re-runs of M.A.S.H. or Frazier because of that. There should be a law against canned laughter - it absolutely ruins any show, old or new. Even the British comedy shows are contaminated with it. Ptomaine poisoning, I call it.
I thought Frasier was filmed in front of an audience.

Yes, I think you might be right about that, but I think canned laughter was added to it. I'm sure this was the case with Parkinson as well, which was also done in front of an audience. And done very badly, too!

That was a wonderfully written, and played, gradual reveal

Don't get me wrong,if I had the time to watch them (and the money to pay for them),I would love to have the entire programme on DVD. I just preferred the early ones with Colonel Blake,Radar,Trapper John etc. However,Harry Morgan was a welcome addition to the series.

I've never yet met an American who has even heard of Bilko - unlike the Odd Couple or I Love Lucy it didn't go into permanent syndication. Which is their loss as it's the funniest sitcom of the era.

My top three american comedies are Bilko, Barney Miller and The Odd Couple. Never seen Barney Miller repeated since it was first shown.

It might also be because it's US title was The Phil Silvers Show. My US friends love Bilko.

I understand that. But whenever I've mentioned it to Americans, even ones who watch stuff like I Love Lucy, they've never heard of it (and believe me,. I've tried this a lot!). And presumably anyone who has seen the show would know the name of the leading character. And it's not ubiquitous on US cable tv in the way Lucy is - I've never spotted it in the schedules whenever I've been channel hopping over there.

Mark I visited the Lucy exhibition in Olando Florida, saw loads of personal letters, and things belonging to the star, her outfit she got married in and other clothes, she seemed to be quite a tall lady, and very very funny with it.
