Default Pig in the Middle

In England there's a kind of comedy elite.... actresses of a
certain age who have had careers in TV and the live theatre.
The "Pig in the Middle" TV Series 1980 - 1983
probably brought more of them together than any other
TV show I can remember.

The TV series starred......

Liza Goddard

Joanna Van Gyseghem

Eleonar Summerfield

Nichola McAuliffe

Jane Booker

It was written by Charlotte Bingham and Terence Brady.

The TV series had some big guns in the cast .... some of the most popular
comedy actresses in the country.
Liza has done a lot of TV (starting at a very early age )
She was in Take Three Girls... The Brothers... and many other TV series.
Joanna has been on TV many times too... exotic, slightly dominating...
and often a little bit dotty.

Liza Goddard, Joana Van Gyseghem and Jane Booker have a lot in common,
they are all of a similar age and they all play upper class english women with posh accents.
They each give the impression that they've been well brought up....probably
in the country ..... the product of loving, well-heeled families.
They are all three ...... sexy blondes..... foxy ladies.... just perfect for playing
"the other woman, " or secretaries, or grand country ladies .

In the TV series " Pig in the Middle" which began in 1980, they were all brought
together on one TV show, (albeit Jane Booker's role was pretty minimal )
Over the years they have graced countless TV series and TV sitcoms yet
at the same time they've kept up their contact with the theatre and
combined the two with consumate ease.

Sadly , time waits for no one and now (in 2008 ) all these lovely ladies are moving....
gracefully.... into middle age.

But don t be too downhearted girls, there are lots of roles on stage, TV and film
for middle aged English ladies... the role of 'Miss Marple' comes to mind and of course....
Midsommer Murders
( MM is always set in a quaint English village )
Those quaint villages always populated with middle aged English ladies organizing
amature theatre and summer garden parties...... so all is not lost.

Liza Goddard is now fast approaching 60 but she has weathered the years very well...
just like Jane Booker and Joanna Van Gyseghem.
Thinking about it, Penelope Keith and Angela Thorne could easily be recruited into
our happy band of upper class English actresses,
....................these 'doyens' of English comedy....upper class
accents and all of them ..... so sexy and foxy throughout their long careers.
Careers that, I'm sure, still have plenty of mileage left in them.
