I know that Parki had trouble interviewing Meg Ryan, just moody I think, but not as much trouble as Rod Hull and Emu

Ok, a comedy show but the interview between Mrs Merton and Chris Ewbank is quite painful!

Can you think of any other cringe worthy ones?

Billy Connolly .... arrogant, self-obsessed and very unfunny. The show where he was on with Pamela Stephenson was cringe-making. She must be the most tolerant wife on the planet to put up with his constant put-downs and overbearing boorishness.

I have to agree with you there bats - I've never understood his allure. With the exception of Mrs Brown but even then I was always aware I was watching someone I didn't much like.

I never really understood all the fuss with Grace Jones and Russel Harty. Yeah she was a bit aggressive but hey, we all KNEW that, that was just the way she was, and LOOKED!

I always find Cliff Richard very arrogant when being interviewed.

I went to see her at Drury Lane in the 80s. As we turned up for the show, she was coming out of the stage door arguing with someone and got into the back of a limo. Er . . . wrong direction Grace.

She ended up being an hour and a half late on stage - something I cannot abide unless it's for an unavoidable reason.

I agree with the comments about Connolly and Cliff above. Both people likely to get me reaching for the remote. I would also add Lulu, Maureen Lipman and Lenny Henry to this list.

Lulu can be irritating but she is cute.

Lenny Henry - smug and totally unfunny.

I remember seeing Christopher Lloyd being interviewed by Terry Wogan, he said very little.

The Bee Gees walking out on Clive Anderson was a classic, Andersons face was a picture.

Does anyone recall seeing Jimmy Saville and Michael Palin walk off set on Parkinson in the eighties, there was another guest on and I think he bored Palin and Saville,I think it was all good natured fun though.

Presumably because they couldn't get a word in.

The best put down on that show came from Maureen Lipman.
After just having asked a question, Clive was just about to answer it for her until she said something like,
'I thought I was the one being interviewed'
That shut the bast**d up!

A very drunk Oliver Reed doing an impromptu rendition of a song (Wild Thing?)on the Michael Aspel chat show. Classic.
And what about thoroughly nasty Sue Lawley being put in her place by Jane Fonda. Lawley steams straight in with "well have you had plastic surgery or a face lift?" Even though she was informed before the interview that this was not a topic Fonda was prepared to discuss. Jane Fonda gets very pissed off and to a resounding cheer and round of applause from the audience replies, "thats none of your goddamn business!" Nice one Jane.

I'm very proud to have worked extensively with Cliff in the 60's and never saw him once argue or fall out with anyone. A REAL gentleman.

I think the best chat show guests were those who were raconteurs and didn't have anything to plug. Niv comes to mind,as well as Peter Ustinov,James Stewart,Bette Davis, the Duke,M&W etc. As much as I like Jonathan Ross and Paul O Grady, they just seem to wheeling out nonentities.
