Wink Chat Shows Pre Parky

I am not certain what the first chat show was on uk tv, but the earliest chat show I ever recall seeing was The Eamon Andrews show round about 1966, Simon Dee came along shortly after that and then there was David Frost.

Parky was the best of them all, especially in the early days when a lot of the Hollywood greats where still with us, Jimmy Stewart, Yul Brynner, Fred Astaire, all give memorable interviews.

Rusell Harty show on LWT didnt get shown in my neck of the woods, but when I did eventually see him I wasnt impressed.

Saturday Night at the Mill was more memorable for the musical interludes fromKenny Ball and his Jazzmen.

Aspel did a farily decent show in the eighites, I also remember his Ask Aspel show on kiddies tv in the seventies.

Wasnt that keen on Wogan the guests were never on long enough.

Didnt Diana Dors try her hand at a chat show at one time,

I've never seen anyone so awkward as poor old Eamonn was on his chat show, This Your Life, and Crackerjack.....................(Crackerjack!!!!!! !!!!).
Ha, Ha, Ha..................................that's what you thought, but tonight, Bert Durex.........This is Your Life................Ha, Ha, Ha............
You haven't seen him for forty years, ('cos you can't stand the bastard) but here he is, fresh from Australia, your old next door neighbour, Sid Cheesecock !!!!

Take me down.

The 'Eamon Andrews Show' was the first British TV chat show and was mercylessly sent up at the time on Round the Horne as the 'Sheamus Android Show'
The writers of Round The Horne, Barry Took and Marty Feldmen had appeared on the Andrews show and couldn't believe what an unprofessional shambles it was.

All agreed, Hugo.
Having said that though, old Eamonn was a first class presenter of Sports Parade, the lunchtime preview show, and Sports Report, both on the old Home Service.
He was also a notable radio boxing commentator, along with his inter-round summariser, W. Barrington Dalby,..........................."Come in there, Barry."
All a very long time ago.........
