Yeah, apparently there was an expected 6.a.m. meeting the other morning at which it was anticipated the programme would be verbally outlined...... but Michael Grade overslept and in the rush, got himself in a tizzy and turned up at the wrong offices........

This reviewer ( The Prisoner 40th Anniversary Edition on DVD Oct 1 - MoviesOnline ) wouldn't have even realised it was a remake by the sounds of things:
"Ive never even heard of this show The Prisoner but it certainly sounds awesome."

The only way I could see it working is to update the story and have the same thing happen to a member of the cast of say "SPOOKS". They resign and end up at the village with McGoohan still there as an old man. Be like "THE COUNT OF MONTE-CRISTO" The new man gets away seeks revenge against his masters and revenge for McGoohan.

Its not possible to remake "The Prisoner"IMHO. I guess you could take the basic premise and rehash some kind of film or TV programe out of it but "The Prisoner" as we already know owed much of its success to the presence of Mcgoohan and the surreal location and style of filming which was very much of the 60s. Leave well alone I would say.
"The Avengers" movie with Ralph Fiennes is a good example of how that era of TV fantasy just cannot be transfered to the modern big screen.

Have to agree that they should leave it alone.

I once read a review saying "The Prisoner" was the type of programme that should be made today as a modern equivalent.

I guess "Life On Mars" was the closest thing to it.

To me a remake is like a new series of "The Avengers" without Patrick MacNee.

Whatever happens at least the original series is easilly available which certainly wasn't the case before Channel 4tv repeated it in 1983.

I think one of the problems that bedevils 'remakes' is the strange desire to mimic the original actors. I'm all for a 'remake' in the sense of picking up the ideas and dealing with them in 'your own way'. What you wouldn't want to do is dress some poor actor up in a beaded blazer and tell him to impersonate Patrick McGoohan and have lots of support actors 'pretending' to be Patrick Cargill or Mary Morris.......

The biggest problem for a modern-day remake is to make their mind up what story they want to do. It's doubtful anybody's got the stamina for a 17-or-so episode epic and a quick hour and a half feature would be laughable. The ideas of treachery, confused ideals, corrupt democracy and citizens as happy fools seem as full of life as ever, to me.

I have to say that whilst I enjoyed the episodes of 'Life on Mars', I never related the two at all. LoM was just a merry pastiche of the Sweeney. The other recent one that claimed prisoner creds was the appalling 'Cape Wrath'....... give me a proper remake any day. At least in 1967 you believed the village could be real....

I have to agree with Moor and say that I never once associated 'LOM' with 'The Prisoner', although the theme of a man trapped is within both shows the reasons behind the two characters situations are entirely different.

I started to watch 'Cape Wrath' but gave up after episode one. Dreadful.

Regarding The Prisoner, the phrase "If it ain't broke don't fix it springs to mind.

The current issue of SFX magazine reckons there is a six or eight part series remake up for production in 2008.........

You have the Avengers film, awful.
Randall & Hopkirk deceased with Bob & Vic,Pitiful
Let us hope that they do not try and remake the Prisoner, it like the others was of its time and is unique. Leave history alone and try something fresh.

Yes, and it's something I find bizarre. After all, on stage (and screen, for that matter), how many hundreds of Hamlets have there been? A different actor can bring out different nuances in a familiar character.

Default "The Prisoner" Remake

I have heard a few rumors and stories that a remake of the TV series "The Prisoner" is currently filming in Libya with US actor Jim Caviezel in the title role. Caviezel played Christ in Mel Gibson's film "The Passion...' McGoohan is said to be making a cameo and Im wondering if Gibson is involved in some way as he himself was keen to resurrect the series and collaborate with McGoohan after the two worked together on "Braveheart"
