I read an article about this the other day..a family from Scotland were visited etc? They came out of it quite well..the children are well looked after, they pay their way, house is Ok etc..

I must admit I don't understand it.

I can't see how they could possibly give a decent amount of attention to each child.

But if they are coping after a fashion - I suppose it really is up to them.

I, personally, think some women are addicted to babies..they crave baby contact - I have never heard anyone bring this up, though..

One guy was happy for his wife to go through pain as she kept having so many children and has been told to stop by the midwife, said he couldn`t get a job cos he said he couldn`t find one to fit his qualifications, but he said the real reason was:

A) He was a Muslim

B) Because of the colour of his skin.

But going by his personality, not because he is a complete pratt then?

There was a family in the next road to me when I was growing up that had 18 children. They had two large council houses that were semi-detached knocked into one. The father was a petty crim..a "Fletch" type who was probably the first obese bloke I saw. He would go into nick, come out...impregnate the wife, go back in. There were a couple of sets of twins and nearly all the kids were ginger. No one messed with them at all. At all. In a city full of military men ! The youngest was a year older than me and he worked in the same kitchen as my mum for a while. She said he was really polite and nice etc. He got sacked for throwing cuts of meat out of the window to his mates!

Yeah, that's me. Billy Balthorpe, the man with no name.

I didn't see the programme but the Guardian review and an interview with one of the families indicates that they were all very nice people who just happened to have a lot of (very happy) children. It didn't sound freaky at all.

I had 4 by ceasarean section and would do it again just to see their faces beautiful and hold them in my arms.

They could start by giving the bloke longer than nine months

The subjects of the shows often aren't really at all freakish. But the way the shows are advertised makes it sound like it something really strange and unusual. Just like the old freak show carnival barkers used to do. Channel 4 have done a lot of shows like this where they advertise them as real freak shows but if you were to actually watch them then the subjects are either quite normal or at worst a bit pitiful

I think it's an indication of how low Channel 4 has sunk

I know...give the missus a rest. She'd be asking for extenuating circunstances..."Give him two more years, your honour, me womb's knackered". Don't know what he kept getting done for...breaking and entering? By the time the youngest came around the oldest were starting on their own families!

If I knew how to link stuff I'd put "Every Sperm Is Sacred" on here.

I know of two large families in Billingham, and all the kids grew up to be respectable adults and likewise their offspring.

Fair enough if you cant support your children you shouldn't have them but if you can support your children what is the matter with a big family although now a days big families are rare, i know i would of loved a brother or sister growing up and even now my parents treat me like a child and im a grown woman, so maybe if i had of had sibblings my parents wouldn't be as over protective now. For gods sake my mother keeps trying to find me a husband talk about embarrassing as i said be there done that and wont do it again.

Live each day to the full because one day it will be your last.
