My Mum and Dad used to have a penguin on top of their telly. Probably explains why I was their youngest and last

i watched this last night ,didnt think it was that great .judging by the lack of posts this morning about it so did everyone else .julie walters looked and talked like her but played her like a lovable granma whos a bit out of step with the modern world ,which would be the fault of the direction i suppose .the real mary whitehouse , like her or loathe her , wasnt a well meaning but confused old biddy .she knew exactly what she was doing and had real fight in her to stop the slide in morals she believed she was seeing.that just didnt come across .stuart maconies tv towns on itv3 which was on at the same time and i taped featured the locations of newcastle ! auf weidersen ,our friends in the north and even though its not tv get carter !ive yet to watch it but wished i had and left mary alone

Interesting review in The Guardian by the divine Nancy Banks-Smith who met all the key players and who agrees with your assessment of Whitehouse as a much tougher cookie than portrayed. It did make it seem as if Hugh Carlton Greene's entire time at the BBC was spent avoiding her but there were some great performances and well chosen clips. The sequence when Greene tried to work out what Whitehouse's objection to Andy Pandy might be was worth the price of admission alone.

I know Helen Grace was in Filth last night because I saw her and her website confirms she was in it, but I missed catching her character in the end credits. Can anybody recall who she played in her small part?

Alternatively, if anybody's got it on tape can they tell me who she played when they get around to seeing the programme?

Thanks.

Right from the opening scene, MW was portrayed as a comic character ....that was a big mistake .....

Clean up TV today?

Good idea!

Get rid of reality shows, shopping channels, Eco Docs telling us we're all doomed and make great TV, (Steptoe, Till Death, The Prisoner etc) like they used to!

Mary Whitehouse? Gone and best forgotten.

.....You couldn't hear it, if they were shooting at me with howitzers!

From the interviews I recall that that the real MW gave, she was far from a comic character. I didn't watch the programme but it doesn't sound too good.

I'm the cutest bottom judge!
