This is due on BBC2 on wednesday with Julie Walters in the lead role.To me Whitehouse represented all that was wrong with society in the 60s and 70s.Most of the time she complained about tv programmes and films that she had never seen.Awful woman!

Even though I found her tiresome, I expect I'll watch it because I'm sure Julie Walters will deliver.

I enjoyed "Longford" for the same reason because of Jim Broadbent

Sounds an interesting drama, Julie as 60's Mary is on the front cover of this weeks Radio Times, several times over the years I've seen the old TV clip where Mary is addressing an audience to do with her 'clean up TV' campaign where she says something along the lines of "last night we watched the television as a family, and I saw the most disgusting thing that I have seen for a very long time"...........I've always wondered what that 'disgusting' thing was, maybe I'll find out this week!

She did - she publicised programmes that people would, otherwise, have probably taken no notice of...........and raised their profiles and, subsequently, their ratings!

I'm sure some of the programme-makers loved her!

Sorry fell, but I do think young minds up to the age of (say) 16 should be strongly protected from, booze, porn and drugs. Only the adults give it to them in large doses.
The above three evils are behind all crime one way or three.

I don't disagree with you, john [with initials like yours - I couldn't!], but I think she probably did far more harm than good.

As the good dame said, she publicised programmes that would otherwise have disappeared completely off the radar.

I am too young to have followed MW Fell! But I would like to see clean television - the foolish producers would double the ratings (mostly the over 50s who are afraid to go out at night because of the 'boozy druggy' types perhaps!). The film industry is bad but one must make the effort to pay for it.

Addition: The DDM newspaper of today gives the programme a good rating so we shall see except that I can't stand Julie Walters!

My original post was intended as tongue in cheek.
However, I know all to well about the dangers of alcohol and addiction.
My aunt died last year as a result of alcohol abuse,
That still doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to enjoy a drink.

I certainly wouldn't describe any of the above 3 as evil.
The person who sells the drug to the teenager may be 'evil' but not the drug itself.

Anyway, not wanting to take the thread further off topic I'm also looking forward to watching the Mary Whitehouse story.
