Chintz, Barbara, Dont Drink The Water with Stephen Lewis and Pat Coombs how did they manage two series of the latter.

Both Ends Meet starring Dora Bryan as somene who worked in a sausage factory

Anyone remember Alcock and Gander with Beryl Reid and Richard O'Sullivan, only ran for six episodes in 1972, didnt think it was that bad.

The Prince Of Denmark on BBC one with Ronnie Corbett keeping a pub only ran for six weeks, I quite liked it at the time, no classsic but there's been far worse.

How about Aflred Marks in Victoria and Albert? on ITV

What I hated most about the Dustbimen was the fact that "bog off." a phrase often utterred in the programme became very popular as a catchphrase in the Uk at the time.

Graham Haberfied (Jerry Booth of Coronation Street fame. was in the Dustbinmen but he eventually returned to the Street some time after The Dustibimen.

Constant Hot Water - mid 80's series about seaside guest houses starring Prunella Gee and the late Pat Phoenix.

I seem to remember it was screened on ITV, but I stand to be corrected.

I also vaguely remember Pull The Other One with Michael Elphick - had to search IMDB to even remember the title. Fairly sure that was ITV.

I always thought that the ITV sitcoms looked like the time and money had been spent on the stars and not the scripts. Tony Hancock is a classic example of this with his later ITV shows.

Thats the joke that killed the Music Hall !

This is an inspired topic. It wasn't until I gave it some very serious cogitation later this afternoon that I realised how much dross has indeed appeared on ITV.

Anyone remember Plaza Patrol?

I also remember a seriously cringeworthy Saturday evening comedy which I think starred James Hazeldene as mentor to some YTS persons. Despite trawling IMDB, none of the titles ring any bells with me.

I can't help but snigger when I recall Roy Kinnear as the head of Hardwicke House. As I remember things, it blotted the copy book somewhat badly at the time. I was barely a teenager at the time, which probably explains why I recall the one and only episode I saw, as being quite funny.

What about HARDWICKE HOUSE and HAVE I GOT YOU WHERE YOU WANT ME. The former wasted the talent of Roy Kinnear the latter Ian Lavender.

Ooh, look what I found:

Bilko named best ever comedy | Media | The Guardian

John Inman's other ITV vehicle, Take a Letter Mr Jones is in there too. I've just watched all six episodes (in the name of research!) and it is awful.

He defended it very heavily in the press and it did manage more than one series. Was a bit feeble I ahve to admit.

It had a good cast (it was an early outing for David Tennant) but it only made one series. The couple I saw were amiable enough but if you hadn't been told it was a comedy, you wouldn't have known.

This thread should be compulsory reading for anyone who likes to talk about the 'Golden Age of British Sitcom'. 90% of them are pretty dismal whatever period you are talking about!

I recall that when 'Blackadder 3' was doing well for the BBC, ITV came up with something similar which starred Keith Barron - I've can't remember it's title though.
