Great memories of Andy's show in the sixtties and seventies. He seemed to change his sweater with every song.

In later years the format changed with humour very much in the same style as "Laugh In.", the bear who asked for cookies was very much a fixture.

I always loved it when he would sing,"May Each Day" at the end of the show followed by a cheesy "goodnight everybody."

Come to think of it we didnt get too many us variety shows in those days, apart from the odd edition of The Dean Martin Show or a Perry Como special.

Does anyone remeber Comos tv series of the fifties being shown, a couple of years before my time.

Julie Andrews had a series that was made for ATV, not sure if it was filmed in the states, one of many shows made by Lew Grade with an eye on the Aamerican Market,

I never hear anyone reminsicing about the Tom Jones Show also made by ATV for the American market, this show was usually shown in a haphazard fashiion across the ITV regions.

The last imported us show I cacn recall was a series by Country star Barbara Mandrell, that must have only been about twenty years ago.

Every time that Andy Williams had a long, high note to sing, the sound engineer would turn up the reverb machine. Regular as clockwork - good voice though.

The Perry Como Show was my parents' great favourite, and was never missed in our house.
My greatest memory of it was in 1958, when it featured a very attractive blonde singer by the name of Jane Morgan.
She had a UK number one with The Day The Rains Came, a sultry piece composed by Gilbert Becaud, with lyrics translated from the French.
Apparently Jane is still with us, married to Hollywood producer Jerry Weintraub, and she'll be 88 on Christmas Day.

I enjoy all practioners of the French chanson such as Aznavour, Jaques Brel and Juliette Greco even though I cant speak French.

When Becaud had a surprise UK hit with ,"A little Love and Understantanding." I thought for some obscure reason that it was disc jockey, Peter Murray having a a laugh, dont ask me why?

You maybe able to help me here Jackdaw was there another Becaud composition on the flipside of,"Day That The Rains Came Down.

My elder brother bought this single in a record fair some years ago.

According to one poster, she sang the same song in French on the flip.
I believe that on her original French version, there was an instrumental version of the song by the backing band on the flip.
Great combination of voice and looks.

The problem with these American imports was that all the shows were sponsored and references to the sponsor and their products occured all the way through and of course had to be edited out by the rules of the BBC, giving many of the programmes a very fragmented feel

The Perry Como Show was sponsored by Kraft cheese and despite the BBC's best efforts a few references to cheese always remained, much to the bewilderment of many British viewers.

Yes, Julie Andrews' show was shown here in the US. I remember my parents watching it when I was a boy; she was probaly the most popular actress in the US when I was very young - 6 or 7. I think it only lasted a few weeks and was on a few years after her most popular films were released.

Few things bring back memories of Christmas past than the Christmas specials made by Andy Williams, Perry Como and, of course, Bing Crosby. I don't know how they would look now, but we always watched them together.

The Andy Williams show was the first colour television I had ever seen in some ones home. My old man had to go and get paid for building work he'd done. We went to a big house in Elm Park, Essex and I was invited in to watch the colour tele, while business was settled. Before that I had only ever seen colour tele in the shops.

Felt robbed if he wasn't on! One day the door was slammed so hard the scenery started to fall down, that was a hoot!

.....You couldn't hear it, if they were shooting at me with howitzers!

Fond memories of the AW show. Brilliant tenor, better than Sinatra for my money.
His double CD of Greatest Hits is a must have.
