Smile Golden Oldie Picture Show

Does anyone remember Dave Lee Travis presenting the Golden Oldie Picture Show in the mid eighties.

Filmmakers made videoes to accompany songs from the sixties such as
The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore
Nights In White Satin
Terry
Stranger On The Shore etc.

"The Golden Oldie Picture Show" (1985)

Yes! It was hillarious! Extremely over literal interpretations of famous pop songs.

Flowers in the Rain? Yup, a guy running around a lot of flowers - in the rain!

I can see for miles? A guy up a tower looking out and using binoculars to, er, yup - see for miles!

It was great hearing the songs - but cheesy it was.

And then there was DLT!

All men leak.

I believe there was one for The Move's Cherry Blossom Clinic, which as the song is about insanity, would have been....interesting....

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

The one I remember was Ha Ha Said The Clown, which I think was by Manfredd Mann. The video for that creeped me out!!

Can't recall the artists who made the record, but a friend of mine was in the video for the song GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS. DLT always made the Oldie show very entertaining and it was amusing to see how some directors interpreted the songs...

The show also had a brave stab at Procol Harum's Whiter shade of pale. Also Stranger on the shore was about ared setter left on a beach with its gulity owner coming back for it.

Good show.

Like The Rock and Roll years it should get a repeat.
