Default An Audience with Neil Diamond

This was a disappointment.

Of the 60 minutes it was mainly taken up with breaks and questions. I think he only sang about six songs which came to about 30 minutes.

When it's a singer I can't really see the point with asking questions, just let them sing. I don't mind if it's a comedian 'cause the response is often part of the fun.

Unfortunately, that is the general format of the programme.
The best two ever made were the two with Ken Dodd - and he managed to fit in a couple of songs too!

DS x.

The format of putting a performer in front of an invited audience largely consisting of his or her showbiz peers and buddies makes me cringe. I think it relates to the notion of exclusivity, and privilege (being invited to the performance) being afforded to those who have a surfeit of it already.

I also baulk at seeing outrageously well paid sports people earning yet more money by endorsing products in commercials. I don't blame them for doing it - I would too - but it all seems rather excessive and greedy.

Quite agree, Alan.
I just can't bear to watch the cheesey showbiz love-in.

The only good moments from those Audience with were Victoria Wood singing The Ballad Of Freida and Barry and Kenneth Williams doing his Crepe Suzette song to the tune of Auld Lang Syne.

It reminded me of probably the most ill-judged remark in movie history. It occured during the filming of Scorsese's "The Last Waltz"

Neil Diamond taunting Bob Dylan by boasting "Follow that!" to which Dylan laconically replies "What do I have to do, fall asleep?".
