Red face Blue remembered hills BBC Four

Caught this last night after looking for it for a while when I suddenly noticed it was on, and have to say it was definitely a case of 'Better remembered hills' as far as I'm concerned. I remember being quite taken with it when I first saw it in what I think must have been late 79 early 80s.

I just found it all a bit inconsequential, and the writing a little loose for grip. The portrayal of the cruelty and spitefulness of children being a mirror for adults in turn palying the children was I remember quite an amusing angle to write from, and the performances seemed to sparkle a lot more than they did last night.

Shame that, maybe those hills were best left blue and remembered.

Great sentiment though, and a poignant closing etude by Dennis Potter.

My feelings exactly. It was groundbreaking television in 1979, but we've moved on since then.

Having said that, I watched "Pennies from Heaven" on DVD recently. That was aired the previous year (1978), but has aged much better.

It's still entertaining to watch, but the impact has lessened over the years. However, Helen Mirren does look good in it.

I remember seeing this when I was aged 12, and being quite horrified and disturbed by it ! Definitely the stuff of nightmares - to a 12-year-old, anyway.

"Amusing" is hardly the word that first came to my mind, but then maybe I've forgotten those bits !
