There is only one sporting event I'll be watching after eu.2008 and that is The Open golf, the rest I have no interest in.

I'm not a Sport person myself, but I think in these days of multi-channels, DVD's etc; it's not worth complaining about too much, the BBC will always say they have a commitment to show loadsa Sport!

I remember Saturday afternoons in the UK at one pre-Video time you had Sport on BBC1, Sport on ITV, and some old Black & White Movie on BBC2 that only your Mother would enjoy........and that was your lot Mate!

Why doesn't the BBC have a dedicated sports channel? It could replace the nonsensical BBC3?

I think the Beeb took the biscuit tonight with the tennis. For some reason they switched it from BBC2 to BBC1, chucked out a filler on Two, and have now interrupted the debut of their new drama series on One. I presume to garner some interest in the exploits of the rather dull Murray

Thank heavens for DVD, is there some sort of tennis on then? I was watching Richard Todd in Venetian Bird

Too much football and not enough variety in my opinion.

Where is all this football? Certainly not on terrestrial TV or Freeview. During an average season these stations only show highlights of league matches plus a few live cup games. The rest of it is all on SKY. The lack of variety is nothing to do with football. SKY have got nearly all the best sport tied up so the other stations are left with the dregs. If it wasn't for these few games terrestrial TV and freeview wouldn't IMHO be worth viewing, they seem to exist almost exclusively on soaps and reality shows.

ITV have most of the live football now: FA Cup, Champions League & England matches so it'll be mostly adverts then...

Plus many international games, even if a home team isn't playing.

I probably notice them more because I don't like them.

I think that's the reason why a lot of people think that there is more footy on the terrestrial channels than there actually is.

If, like me, you only have five channels in total and, on a Saturday afternoon, there is sport on FOUR of those five channels, then there is definitely far too much sport on TV!

As it is compulsory for everybody with a TV receiver to fund the BBC, then they have a duty to entertain the people who do not like sport as well; IMHO they should not be allowed to broadcast sport on BBC1 & BBC2 at the same time.

I also take Bats's point on soaps and reality shows - WHATEVER HAPPENED TO VARIETY ON TV?

DS x.

And also possibly the reason why people who like football think that there's less footy on the terrestrial channels than there actually is

Because they don't show the premiership matches they don't show the matches you really want to see. But they seem to show all the other international matches like Croatia playing Hawaii or whatever it is, I don't wait around to see the details. I just see that it's football (or some other sport) and quickly switch over.

I agree!

However those sort of matches (Croatia v Hawaii et al) are usually only shown during tournaments and there's always one footy free summer between them.

I think there should be dedicated BBC and ITV sports channels as with SKY .... that way both sports fans and non-sports fans should be catered for.

And for all the soaps and reality shows we have Room 101.
