Default Fame And Price On The Two Ronnies

Did anyone see Georgie Fame and Alan Price murdering "Delilah." in their guest spot on The Two Ronnies." on UK gold yesterday. Dont get me wrong I am a great fan of both singers as solo artists, but I am beginning to think that they didnt gel as a duo. The pairing didnt last long anyway only a couple of singles and an album or two.

I too am a fan of both as solo artists (up to a point anyway), but the less said about "Rossetta" the better.

Bit of a clash of personalities and egoes, methinks. Alan Price was such a 'grump'.

Look out for Alan Price in the Dylan documentary Don't Look Back - what he's doing there in the first place is a mystery, but what a berk !!!

I used to know someone who was a member of singing duo,and they were performing one night in Wynyard House, which,at the time was the home of Lord Londonderry. Anyway,as the evening progressed the duo sang Georgie Fame's Yeh,Yeh - completely forgetting that Fame ran off with Londonderry's wife.

Alan Price was a source of great amusement in 'Don't look back' the film of the UK tour in 1965 by Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. He was never seen without a drink in his hand!

Charliekane, there's no mystery to Price's hanging about on Dylan's tour of Britain. The influence of Price's arrangement of and performance on the Animal's "House Of The Rising Sun" on Dylan is undeniable. Listen to Dylan's folk version of "Rising Sun" (stolen fron Dave Van Ronk), listen to the Animals' version then listen to "Blonde On Blonde". Price was probably hoping to get hired.

I agree with you there, I always had a soft spot for his follow up album,"Between Today and Yesterday" paricurlarly the title track. Apart from his single "Just For You." most of Alans work didnt receive the attention it deserved.

"A Price On His Head" from 1967 contains to lovely covers : Dylan's "To Ramona" and Randy Newman's "Living Without You". If not the first, Price was certainly one of the earliest British recording artistes to champion Newman's songcraft.

Yes Billy think he was one of the first uk artists to cover Newmans songs. In the states roughly about that time covers of Randy Newman songs were beginning to emerge from the likes of Bobby Darin and Judy Collins, with Three Dog Night following a couple of years after with,"Mama Told Me Not To Come.
