Quite agree, that's why I think that he would be very tongue-in-cheek as Dr Who and it would soon turn into a sitcom.

Some actors can play any role with credibility, others can only play themselves with no credibility usually, then there are ones so wooden that you could build pallets out of them.

James Nesbitt leaves me cold I'm afraid. A real one trick pony.

Totally agree Bats. "Now tell me Mr Nesbitt, can you do a Brummie accent? "No". "OK, let me hear your London accent" "No". "Right...Geordie?" "No". "Mr Nesbitt, we have a Scottish actor doing the Doctor at the moment, and he does an excellent character voice". "Oh".
"NEXT!"

How about Peter Davidson again?

Nesbitt's only one step from Neil Morrissey. Both doing adverts, both will disappear. Hopefully.

Good news about Moffatt - hadn't heard about that. His episodes have been consistently brilliant and the prospect of him as principal writer is mouth watering regardless of who is playing Who.
I think Russell T is already on record as saying he wants the Doctor to always be slightly younger after the regeneration process. It was totally illogical and a bit rubbish really when young Peter Davison regenerated into middle aged Colin Baker, so I think we can discount David T turning into anyone older than him.
For my money, I would suggest Tom Hardy, who I thought was brilliant as Bill Sykes recently. He would be a return to the power acting style of Christopher Eccleston which I preferred to David T's comic and manic stuff.

Love him or hate him, David Tennant is going to be a very, very hard act to follow. His popularity with the younger audience is immense, and at the end of the day its the kids that matter most.

Whoever takes the role next, male, female or other. They will have their work cut out for them.

I have to agree, I haven't enjoyed Dr Who since Tom Bakers role as the Doctor. I think Tennant has brought the role back to life and love watching the new shows.

I too have enjoyed David Tennant very much as the Doctor - shame its been spoiled (for me at least) by the Donna character

I think Sean Pertwee would be brilliant and would certainly get my vote. But I heard David Morrisey has already been spotted filming the Christmas specials.

Why not morph Barrowman's character into the Doctor, then we would only have to endure the hype for one tedious series instead of two!

He really is starting to grate in a style reminiscent of Tony Slattery in the 90s. The most recent episode of DW is just a horrid train wreck.

After being prompted by a couple of people at work I have given some of the recent episodes a look and I cannot take to them at all. Tennant's OK but the whole thing comes across to me as a huge cliquey in-joke by Davies which I feel alienates the casual viewer. It's all smoke and mirrors at high volume with no real substance. Barrowman does indeed display some Slattery-esque traits and remember what happened to poor ol' Tony. IMHO the whole concept needs a radical overhaul before it disappears up it's own jacksy.
