I've thought this for a long time - why not a female Doctor? (There are probably now thousands of Who afficionados ready to tell me why not due to the rules of regeneration or some such).

How about Meera Syal or a favourite actress of mine Nicola Walker.

I too have thought this and my first choice would have been Alex Kingston. I feel she would have been perfect, but the next thing I know is that she turns up in the programme as his future/late wife!

I have long had a dream that the first female Doctor would be Anna Chancellor.

You can't have a female Dr Who .... it would be like having a woman as James Bond or a girly Hamlet! The Doctor is a bloke and should always be a bloke.

The casting of dramatic roles in theatre, film and TV is exempt from the Sex Discrimination Act. So up yours!

The onus was on the word 'woman' - perhaps it's the way I tell 'em. Sorry.

It wouldn't make difference if it was a woman or not .... the law is the law! Blimey, I've become a pedant!

Really?

I liked the 60s and 70s versions but this new incarnation leaves me cold.

Is Tennant really to exit or will there be some weird and wonderful cop out excuse for his regenerating... back into David Tennant. As there's a few specials to come before Moffatt takes over I can't see Tennant leaving just yet.

I'd like to see Eddie Izzard in the role next as he's delightfully eccentric, or a self-confessed fiction/horror geek like Simon Pegg - with Nick Frost as his assistant.
