Default Nesbitt to be new Who?

Nesbitt to be new Who?
Thu 02 Aug 11:34 AM. By Press Association

From the moment David Tennant slipped into the black leather jacket vacated by Christopher Eccleston, speculation has been rife as to when the handsome Scottish star will step down as the Doctor.

He's always maintained a dignified silence, but when names start to be bandied about in the Press, there's usually something afoot.

Jekyll actor James Nesbitt is rumoured to be the next in line to fly the Tardis. He's good friends with Steven Moffat, who wrote Jekyll, and who is widely tipped to replace Russell T Davies, who steps down next year.

That's a lot of rumour, but according to an insider: "Moffat has worked with James on Jekyll and the talk in BBC Drama is that he's a shoo-in as the next Doctor. First a Scottish Doctor - now we could have a Northern Irish one."

So did I, Nick!

I'm afraid that, as much as he's a wonderful actor, I really don't think James Nesbitt would make a very good Dr. Who and I doubt that he would tie himself down to a part like that indefinitely.

How sad that they won't take the plunge and get an older actor who would be more credible to me (I always like of Who as a wise old man) and who would not be so keen to move on after only a couple of series.
I know that he's supposed to regenerate - but does it have to be quite so often?

Starry x.

I was just thinking what an inspired idea it was. William Hartnell for the 21st Century. What a shame it isn't so........

Derren Nesbitt as Dr Who would be fantastic .... even I would watch it then.

James Nesbitt leaves me cold I'm afraid. A real one trick pony.

Ralph Fiennes as the Dr or the Master - brilliant. Nesbitt cooked his goose with me in the truly awful Jekyll - could we have anymore cheese with the ham?

I didn't want to say anything but my first thought was Derren, much better choice than James, and I don't even watch Dr Who! Did in the Jon Pertwee days.

Start every day with a smile and get it over with.

Jekyll actor James Nesbitt is rumoured to be the next in line to fly the Tardis.
That'll be good then! There is a long list of UK actors who lack credibility in whatever role they play; Robson Green, Clive Owen, Ross Kemp, Reece Dinsdale, John Hannah etc and James Nesbitt is certainly included on this list.

The new incarnation of Dr Who misses the point I think. The early series were low budget and low tech which was part of the charm of it, but now it's just codswallop!

That's not stupid .... you could really have been stupid and said James Nesbitt!

Mrs Bat thinks Trevor Eve would be OK ... Shoestring or Bergerac ... what a choice.

Why not a female Dr Who? Using a proper actress rather than a soapster of course, maybe Jenny Agutter (although didn't she start out in a soap, The Newcomers?).

You need a character actor with gravitas and a bit of quirkiness. We have dozens of these in the UK.
But Nettles and Eve are completely lacking in any sort of eccentricit, so they're out.
NO COMEDIANS!
Apparently Bill Nighy was discussed for season 1, and he was up for it. Would've been GREAT.
I'd like to see Michael Gambon in the part -- he ain't young and pretty, but kids would accept him because he's Dumbledore, ffs.
Or, there's an amazing actor called Danny Webb. The most alien performer since Nigel Green.
