Perhaps one could argue that it was old con versus new con with their different "values".
Physically its not implausable as Postlewaite kept himselt fit and in good order.
Bit like an old streetfighter against a mouthy young yob.

I agree - and he also made sure that he would only be in a 'one-to-one' situation. Harewood's character was not a fighter - he had other people to do that for him; he was brains, not brawn.
I found it perfectly plausible too.

Did he kill Harewood's character? I wasn't sure and when I saw the henchmen going into the cell I thought PP had just roughed him up until he talked. When you're being strangled it's difficult to talk, also if he did kill him what was the point of his henchmen then exacting revenge.

I enjoyed the first four episodes but the fifth for me felt like the BBC had chosen the one which would please everybody and in the end the pleased no one.

For all the small gripes about the series, I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought the ending was quite satisfying. Overall it spoke volumes for the quality of the acting and writing to sustain interest by being shown over five consecutive evenings. The only thing I wasn't sure about was DID Hooch kill Freddy Graham? I didn't think he did. If he had killed him I don't think Graham's hench men would exact revenge. Apart from that as I said really enjoyed it, I can't remember the last time I followed a series on TV. Most of the time "There's nothing on the telly!"

I imagine that most people who wanted to have seen it now anyway.

I got the impression that some were disappointed because they were expecting a more 'sensational' ending - I thought that the ending was right; justice was done and seen to be done in the end.
I never thought that Freddie was dead - I don't think that any of his 'henchmen' were capable of thinking for themselves, were they?
And Hooch was expecting his own demise - exactly as Freddie would have ordered it, even turning up his own radio at the right time!
