Default Missing Television - memories

Hi,

i am one of that unfortunate generation that never had the oppurtunity to see some of britains greatest television series, so, this thread is a chance to plug the gap for those such as me.

if you have memories of any missing british television programs, common or obscure, from A for Andromeda to Z-Cars, please make a contribution.

Do you remember the conclusion of the Quatermass experiment?

Do you remember seeing Patrick Troughton face The Power of the Daleks?

Did you see Ace of Wands?

What shows, now believed missing do you have memories of from your childhood which could be shown to those who will never see them. any memories to share would be welcomed, and give a far better impression of the impact of the shows than any picture or script ever would.

I remember being frightened by the BBC's live transmission of Quatermass And The Pit as a child, enjoying early Doctor Who (no I never actually hid behind the sofa when the Daleks came on) and being called in from playing with my friends to see a new children's puppet series called Supercar. Thanks for that Mum.

Yes we have programmes repeated to death in todays BBC 1, BBC 3 & BBC 4 world while so many excellent examples of BBC output from 40 years ago will never be seen again even though they were only shown once. Very sad indeed I am sure you will agree!

I remember Patrick Troughton's The Evil of the Daleks and how good it really was. I was upset because I think it was stated that this would be the last ever Daleks story. They were wiped out in this story and that was to be the end of them.

I also remember this story being repeated, and I think it may have been shown as a complete story at one point. Am I imagining this?

Fast forward to 1993/94 when I read the brilliant John Peel novel of the story, only to find out soon after that all but one of the TV episodes had been lost. Aargh!

Does anyone remember the grove family on tv. Maybe the first soap I think. It starred edward evans ,ruth dunning ,chris. beeny and nancy roberts as gran. Very tame now I suppose but I used to watch it avidly.

I have very vague memories of the Groves. I was born in 1953, so I would be very young when this was shown. I can't get to my reference books at the moment as they are all packed away, but was there one called The Appleyards?

Can anyone remember a short lived programme in the late 60's (I think) called 'Zokko'? I seem to remember it was some sort of talking juke box but it really freaked me out!

What am I doing here Sgt? I should have been having lunch at the Saville!

There's a thread about it somewhere on this site.
