Pool old Rondo Hatton suffered from the disease agromelcy (think that's the spelling), in other words, a less advanced version of the problem John 'The Elephant Man' Merrick had. The landlord of my local pub was diagnosed with the same malady when a doctor happened to pop in for a swift one and noticed that he had pronounced thickening of the fingers. Probably why he was kept in permanent shadow to make more sinister the effect of his role as the Creeper. He certainly gave me the spooks when I was a youngster. He appeared in twenty or so films from 1930 onwards. |

i thought eric porter was an excellent moriaty but when judging a depictation of a villain i tend to appreciate the performance more if i end up disliking the character as a person and with moriaty there's respect shown by holmes which lessens my sense of dislike-if anyone knows what i mean?
