I've just scanned the Radio Times from February to July 1996 and I can't find any mention of the show you are looking for.

Could it be 'Kicking and Screaming' narrated by James Bolam. This was a series first shown late in 1995 about the history of football in Britain and was soon repeated on BBC2. However IRRC there was only one episode on British teams in Europe and another on the England national side. I'm not sure, but I believe that one of these episodes was also about hooliganism and how it over-spilled into Europe.

I've scanned the same months from 1995 Radio Times editions and there is still nothing. BBC 2 did run a series in March called 'Natural Born Footballers' but that was just interviews with players like Gazza, Kenny Dalglish etc. It's actually depressing to see that ITV have just started a new police series set in sixties called 'Heartbeat'.

Arena did a three parter called, Busby, Stein and Shankley which traced the three Scot's influence throught their clubs post-war. It was narrated by Hugh McIlvaney. However, the Arena page on BBc site says 1997.

At a similar time there was a series called Football, Voetball, Fussball which covered many of the histories of Euro leagues.

Hope that this is of some help if not the actual answer.

Yeah, that's me. Billy Balthorpe, the man with no name.

i will check up on football, voetball, fussball. your reply has reminded me that there were episodes in the series that covered other countries fortunes in europe as well. the british teams fortunes in europe covered about 3 or 4 episodes.

Football Fussball Voetbal ran from 3rd November to 15th December 1995 introduced by either John Motson, Clive Tyldsley or Ray Stubbs

Part 1 - Britain
Part 2 - Holland
Part 3 - Germany
Part 4 - Liverpool/Nottingham Forest
Part 5 - France
Part 6 - Eastern Europe
Part 7 - World Cup 1966 to Euro 96
