Default Scotland Yard Edgar Lustgarten

Has anybody any more background information on the above series. seem to remember it episode based, on stories about the police in the 1950's.
I know you can buy the series on Ebay, was it repeated on tv in the 1980's.
Cheers Steve.

It was originally a series of 39 B features for the cinema but most people are familiar with it from TV repeats. Unfortunately it's not officially available on DVD. There's a guide here:

CTVA UK "Scotland Yard" (Merton Park Studios,UK)(1953-61) hosted by Edgar Lustgarten

You crazy idiots - my name's McGill!

I've probably said this before but my boss is still bitter about how late he got home on the evening he found Edgar Lustgarten's corpse. Don't die in a library, folks - it's very selfish. Or at least die in the morning...

Yes, Channel 4 showed them in the late 80s and at the start of the 90s (a legacy of Leslie Halliwell being their film buyer I believe).

Wasn't it in the reference section? Sounds like a case for Inspector Duggan.

I seem to recall that after his death it was discovered that he'd been a rather lonely individual towards the end of his life and that he'd had a long-term platonic relationship with a lady who I think inherited his estate. Must look up the press cutting which I've got somewhere.

It was indeed a reference library - ironically just by the crime section, apparently. My experience of the sort of people who are in reference libraries at closing time suggests that he may not have had a wild social life (though of course he did have an excuse that day...)

If he was around now, he'd be hard pressed to find the crime section or even the reference section in my local authority library - they think everything is on the internet.

Poor Edgar, ending his days like that. A world away from the solid oak desk, the drinks cabinet and the leather chair he occupied in 'Scotland Yard'.
