Default The I hate Wife Swop-style shows Club

I am sat here watching the latest Channel 4 Wife Swop-style show, only this time instead of pitting poor people against middle class people for 'entertaining' disharmony, its au pairs being chosen by bigots and numskulls.
I know why Channel 4 commissions such rubbish - the aim for ratings. But these are truly horrible shows, normally involving a couple of scenes of distressed kids (I'm guessing, but all the shots where the child looks at the camera I reckon are cut`), several rows, and general unhappiness.
No wonder people in this country are so fed up - work hard all day and then come home to this!
Will anyone join my I hate Wife Swop-style shows Club?

PS my wife has refused to join!

Yes, I will join - but don't watch them! That is the only way to get the message across.

But it is not, really, a valid argument, anyway, is it? There are equally high ratings for other types of programmes..they cite the lowest common denominator as their reasoning - but we don't like it and I have sensed a general feeling of ill will. The truth is that it is cheap to make in a monetary sense - the cost is felt in the effect it has on peoples lives. I think the kind of people who are watching it are probably just going with the flow and would watch pretty much anything..so why bother pandering to them?

I think they should be made to watch a didactic appraisal of Neitzsche's critical texts on a nightly basis.

I hate these type of shows but to be honest I have seen worse than wife swap! But yet again it brings fame to everyday talentless people like that woman with the big gob that was on there, dunno her name, but she even ended up on the weakest link, just because......erm......I dunno why really! Pointless.

All these programmes are mind numbing, big brother being the worse. There will come a time when I will wonder why television was invented if it continues like this. I do feel sorry for actors who have seriously studied drama or done a lot of stage work for experience when these numbskulls get paid for being on our t.v screens for being full of BS! Wake up broadcasters!

xx

We`re changin` lodggggggggings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was saddened to find Angela Bruce pulling pints in one of my locals a few years back while NumptyVision was showing all kinds of pondlife because it was a cheaper option and "the viewers liked it"

It makes my blood boil ,especially when the family are sat watching the latest offering of mind numbing banality

I retire to my bolthole and watch my own films, or check the Forum ,and when I return ,I am asked why I don't watch telly with them ?

I blame Andy Warhol and whichever TV Exec / Producer ,took him seriously (Mind you It looks like he may be right ,more's the pity )

I May be getting older ,but I refuse to grow up

For the last decade or so CH4 have a propensity to broadcast crap like this. I was under the impression that CH4, as part of it's public service remit, was supposed to commission new inventive non-mainstream shows. It used to adhere to it's original 1982 remit - why did it change?
