It was on 19 July 1948,when Harry Corbett bought a little glove puppet from a joke shop in Blackpool for seven shillings and sixpence. Sooty was born. Along with his friends Sweep and Soo,this little silent puppet has entertained generations of children and is still going strong.

I have a personal interest in Sooty in 1968 I came second in a talentt competion at the Pier Theatre in Bournemouth when Sooty and co were doing summer season. The first prize was a sooty puppet but my second prize was a coluring book.

It was Harry Corbetts wife Majorie who ushered me on and off the stage.

Sooty certainly looks good for his age.

I think Sooty's best years were with Harry Corbett.

Thanks Sooty and friends for entertaining generations of kids.

Happy Birthday and may you still be around in another 60 years.

I remember in 1994 Sooty was doing a UK wide tour and to prove his popularity tickets for these shows were selling like hot cakes. I know this because my sister tried to get my nephew and nieces tickets for various venues but they were all sold out.
