Default Which (if any!) series of Tales of the Unexpected?

I'm wondering whether or not to cough up for a Tales of the Unexpected DVD - but as you'll probably know, there're quite a few series (8, I think). Simple question - which is the best? Does anyone have any strong opinions either way? I'm guessing it gets weaker towards the end, and that it took a couple of series to find its stride - thus may be 3 or 4 are the ones to plump for? I'm not expecting too much from the programme - think of it more as an exercise in nostalgia than "serious" viewing.

Any thoughts? Or if you've any alternative suggestions, I'm more than open to them. Thanks all!

I had the first series for a while, but found wasn't really watching them that often so sold the set to a used dvd shop. Some good eps and some not-so great ones.

If you don't have "Alfred Hitchcock Presents Season 1" I'd get that instead. There's some dud eps in that, too, but generally the quality is much better.

Get Tales .... there one or two rubbish episodes as in any series .... but they are generally good fun and you get to lots of nice views of Norwich and Norfolk.

Happy Birthday Daddy .... I love you!

My favourite episode was called Waxpaper and starred the guy off Private Eye, Raymond something or other. It gives me nightmares to this day.

They actually repeated my favourite T of U (which is infact called Flypaper) the other night. I was so excited, I set my Sky box and woke up to find only half of it had been taped. Obviously with T of U missing the last half kind of spoils it a bit. This is not the first time I've had this problem when using my Sky box, does anyone else find similar happens to them.

As you know Tales of the Unexpected often turns up on ITV3. If I were you I'd go for Brian Clemen's "Thriller". Excellent series. Not all the episodes are first class though but then you always get that. Well worth splashing out the cash. See this link here: Amazon.co.uk: Thriller - The Complete Series (15... "Flypaper" is one of the best ones if not the best of T of U. I remember watching that in the eighties and was amazed they actually got away with that what with a story involving child murders. Very creepy episode and Alfred Marks superb as usual....
