Yes, an excellent underrated film.

When I lived at home with my parents, there lived opposite a likeable chap, a retired prison officer who had worked at Strangeways. I remember talking to him many times and he was happy to relate his experiences to me. In particular he told me he had been present at numerous hangings and had seen Pierrepoint operate at close quarters. My parents left the area in the 1980's but always kept in touch by letter and Christmas cards. Earlier this summer I renewed my acquaintance with him and went to visit it him. Now aged 86 and still very active I spent a long afternoon chatting with him. I took with me DVDs of Pierrepoint, Let Him Have It and 10 Rillington Place. I showed him the execution scenes from the three films. He said the only one that came closest to a real execution and resembled Pierrepoint's skill was in 10 Rillington Place adding that even that was not as quick as the real thing. He felt that Tim Spall and Clive Revill (both great actors IMHO),were both nothing like him at all.

A colleague of mine was an extra in the film .... she was one of the Nazi camp guards who gets the drop!

A good, well made drama. They captured the feel of the period very well.
A shame that they signalled the way it would turn out with Tish from about 30 minutes into the film. But that really did happen fairly much as it was shown in the film.

Great performances from Timothy Spall & Juliet Stevenson. We expect nothing less. But apart from their refusal to face up to what he was doing, they didn't really address any of the issues.

A thought: Was Albert Pierrepoint the most prolific serial killer we've ever had in Britain?

They might well have expected full confidentiality on his part? These days he would, no boubt, have been expected to sign a document to that effect.

I thought Eddie Marsan gave a good performance too
