Default Ken dodd and the diddymen/ray allen

I well remember the Ken Dodd and Diddymen programme on a Sunday night, which started in 1969. Ray Allen had a similar show short in length on a Sunday niight as well with his puppets Tich and Quackers. Popular slot for this kind of show, I remember that Sooty was show about this time a couple of years earlier before they moved to Thames. Pinky and Perky as well.

The Diddy lineup included;

Dicky Mint
Mick the Marmelizer
The Hon Nigel Ponsonby Smallpiece

In a similar puppet vein from this period were
Shari Lewis and Lambchop/Charleyhorse
Pussycat Willum
Fred Barker & Ollie Beak

Pinky and Perky used to feature a puppet that had the head and body of a fox, with someone putting their arms through the fox's costume so essentially it was a fox head and body with human arms and hands - used to freak me out!

Yes I can remember Ken Dodd and Knotty Ash (I had NO idea until last year that it is a REAL place!)
In the Ray Allen Show he had a slot where he used to talk to the boon microphone and it would nod and answer him! Creepy!
I was never that keen on Pinky and Perky.
Do you remember Lamb Chop created by comedian and ventriloquist Shari Lewis?

Yes and region 1 will be releasing a DVD of some of Shari Lewis' shows at the end of this year.
Shari Lewis also co-wrote an episode of the original Star Trek.

I remember watching the Diddymen when I was younger and I thought they were evil incarnate. They scared me - I don't know why, but they did.

Ray Allen lives near me here in Reigate - I first spotted him waiting in the doctor's where I also had an appointment. I didn't approach as the only line I would offered might have been 'I remember you from Crackerjack' ... it was confirmed it was him some months later when the local rag did a 'ex-famous person lives in ojur town' type piece

I think Ray Allen was the greatest ventriloquist in the world. A strong statement I know but I really think so.
