Default Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads?

Superb show brilliant casting memorable opening credits and twenty seven great episodes.

I liked the fact that Bob and Terry were lads who had simple pleausres when it came to their social life they didnt go to the disco until the early hours of the mornng just cotent with a few bevies down the local followed by a fish and chip supper.

Whenver I see Bob and Thelmas house it reminds me of the housing estate that I live in. The first phase would have been built in 1973 when the series began.

A lot of modern estates were being built at the time and they all looked the same just like the houses depicted in the Malvina Reynolds song "Little Boxes," which was written roughly a decade eariler.

So should they do a one-off programme now to find out how Terry and Bob fared since the end of the last series?

It's a good idea and one I would watch, but I have read that James and Rodney cannot abide eachother so it's highly unlikely......

Great series and amongst my top 5 sitcoms. I've been meaning to buy the boxset for sometime as I'm missing a Christmas special.

I always thought that a 'Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads'
sequel, even a one off, seemed like a good idea. I read somewhere recently that although Bolam and Bewes WERE friends
for the duration of both 'TheLikely Lads' and the sequel (WHTTLL) and the film version, it was about that time that they fell out.
Apparently Bewes announced in a radio chat interview,
that Bolam and Susan Jamieson, were about to become parents.
Bolam being a very private man, took umbrage at this, and never spoke to Bewes again, nor did he turn up for the
movie premier! Sad, but at least we have the 'history'
to view at our leisure!

James Bolam never turned up when Rodney Bewes was on 'This Is Your Life'. They had to show a clip from 'Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads' without James Bolam in it which was strange and obvious.

I read there were plans for a Likely Lads sequel, I think it was mentioned in a interview that James Bolam did with the Daily Telegraph a few years ago. Of course as already been mentioned Bewes and Bolam dont get on. If it had come to fruition it may have faried better than the Liver Birds revival which flopped badly.

Default Likely Lads One Off

Perhaps try with 2 others to fill the places - After all the series is about the characters not the actors

I'd like to see a series called "Whatever Happened to Ant and Dec?" - because that would mean that they're not on our screens every 5 minutes

True, but the type of actor needed to play those roles are few and far between .... The Likely Lads as pensioners with Bewes and Bolam would be worth a look, but to remake with other actors stops it IMHO from being The Likely Lads.

Happy Birthday Daddy .... I love you!

From what I read the idea Clement and La Frenais were touting a couple of years ago was Terry winning the lottery and Bob redundant. Turning the original 'Whatever Happened....' on it's head
