Default Tom o connor

Never took to him myself. I remember when he was host of a variety show in the seventies called "Wednesday Night At Egiht." recorded at the New London theatre, I always remeber that the musical guests were "Stutz Bear Cats and,Wall Stree Crash, pale imitations of Manhatten Transfer to my mind.

In the late seventies either BBC or ITV showed the Royal Variety Show live an unusal experiement, Tom O' Connor was on there and he sang the Frankie Laine hit,"That Lucky Old Sun." and muredere it as he couldnt sing.

Didn't Tom O'Connor come onto the scene via a talent show ie either New Faces or Opportunity Knocks. I've always quite liked him and the things he's done. Name that Tune springs to mind.

I spoke to him once a few years ago when I worked in a call centre (I know it was him as he introduced himself as TV personality Tom O'Connor) I must say he seemed a truely gracious and lovely chap.

I tend to think most people from Liverpool are great.

There is a lovely story about Tom O'Connor I have re-told on some forum - forgive me if it is this one - before.
Anyway, as is well-known Tom won Opportunity Knocks, which helped him become famous....years later he was asked to entertain the postmen of Liverpool in a specially arranged works concert. Afterwards he joined them at the bar, and they insisted he owed them not one but several 'rounds' - why? asked Tom innocently....because, they informed him, when Opportunities Knocks votes came through the main Liverpool sorting office they were routinely opened by the posties, and the rule was that those who voted for fellow Scouser Tom were sent on to the TV production company, while those votes for the other rivals contestants ended up in the bin...
