I only remember it from been a child when my dad was at home and he watched it every week while my mother was at work. I saw one a few years ago but it would be nice to see the odd one repeated just for the excellent music content so missed today.

"Seya next time!"

The two Focus sessions .... an early appearance by Judas Priest and several Rory Gallagher sessions stick in my mind.

Happy Birthday Daddy .... I love you!

I liked the old grey whistle test. I thought I was having some false memory thing because I could have sworn that I saw The Ramones on there for the first time (but I would only have been 6 – but they played again in 1985 (I’m not a huge fan of The Ramones..just in case the music appreciation police are on here tonight…! )

I remember Andy Kershaw introducing The Smiths by saying ‘As far as I’m concerned this is only the band of the eighties that will ever be remembered!' As he was the regular presenter on there at the time - that was quite a statement and a bit unfair, I think.

But this is my favourite Whistle test performance:

I rmember them showing extracts of Bob Dylan in the Rolling Thunder Revue.

Also recall seeing Neil Sedaka singing his song "Betty Grable.", they were not afraid to feature aritsts that were considered to be uncool.. I think Nei Sedaka had some street cred during this period as he recorded two ablums at Strawberry Studios in Stockport with backing from 10cc

An early TV appearance by Roxy Music (with Eno), the New York Dolls (only British TV appearance ?) and some great footage of a Philly Soul spectacular from the USA.

i think one of the things that made this show so good was the era it ran in .fashions changed so quick back then ,one minute it was prog rock featured on there and the next minute punk and new wave . even the blander 80s were still good and i used to enjoy it being presented by mark ellen and david hepworth
