Default Les Dennis on Family Fortunes

Saw a repeat of Family Fortunes last night and witnessed Les doing a very poor impersonatio of John Cleese. There was a question about John Cleese which gave Les a chance to do a silly walk and quote some familiar lines from Fawlty Towers. It was truly cringmaking, to add insult to injury he proceeded to recite some lines from Monty Pythons architect sketch.

I cant say I dislike Les Dennis but when he was in a double act with Dustin Gee it was the latter who was the talented one.

Quite agree with you on that one. First saw Dustin Gee at Frank Mannings Cabaret Club in Newquay ( owned by Bernad Manning's brother) in 1978. An absoulte star of a live performer with such accurate impressions. I booked him for a cabaret myself later that year and he took the place by storm. Sadly missed

He was great on Who Do You Do earlier on in the seventies I liked the fact that he did impersonations that were out of the mainstream repotore I remember him dong John Lennon on there.

Incidentally I know the club you mean in Newquay, I stayed in a hotel which was very near to Bernards club back in 1981 when I was on holiday there.

I am not sure if still is a club. When I went there last in 1993 I think it was somethinge else, might be wrong though.

Really glad to know that you appreciated Dustin Gees work.

I do recall some Channel4 gameshow on which Les Denis was a panelist - and they had a round which was "Guess which impression Les is doing now". And not even Les could tell who it was

SirOllyBolly

"What fresh lunacy is this?"

Could be some clips on Youtube.

If you like impressionists have a look at Stevie Ricks on Youtube, he specialises in impersonations of singers, he does one skit about Paul Mcartney giving instructions on how to make a cup of tea. He also does Freedie Mercury, Gilbert O' Sullivan and Elton John singing a song about Coronation Street entitiled Corrie Is Getting Quite Absurd, to the tune of "Sorry Seems To be the Hardest Word."
