Default Harvey or Barney?

Can anyone tell me the name of a70s drama about a slightly retarded bloke, he was a diabetic or something & decides to go on a day out. As far as I remember he gets lost on the moors & starts going into a diabetic coma. I seem to remember he had shiny boots, wore a flat cap & something to do with comedy fake ears

His characters name was possibly Barney or Harvey & I think the actors name is Barry something.

Cheers

I thought it might have been called Horace, but can't find anything.

The guy was in loads of stuff in the 70s....it's doing my head in!

I remember the series too .... IIRC the actor was Barry something or other and he quit the role because his wife was fed up with people calling him by his character's name when they went out together.

I don't know, but this sounds a little like the two films made by Channel 4 in the 1980s. They were called Walter (1982) and Walter and June (1986).
The star was Sir Ian McKellen, playing the title character - Sarah Miles was June.

Walter had mental health issues, and certainly wore a flat cap and boots. He also kept pigeons.

I think you're referring to Horace (1982) with Barry Jackson from Midsomer in the title role, but this was a series, not a single drama.
Can't find much on it, but didn't he work in a toy factory?
IIRC, he would preface any words of wisdom with, "Mam says......."
I have vague memories of some yobs chucking him int' canal in one episode.
Good performance from Jackson as the gentle man-child.

That's the one I'm thinking of.

I was thinking it was Joey , but I looked up an entry for this in Haliwells tele guide and that play was about the true story of Joey Deacon.
