Default Harry and Paul; are they still funny?

did anyone see this last night ? apart from the sketch with the polish waitress which is quite well observed and funny the rest of it done nothing for me .same thing with the repeat of armstrong and miller .why are those two shows on primetime bbc1 yet the far superior mitchell and webb are only on bbc2 ?

Agree about Paul and Harry. I just don't want to see Paul Whitehouse doing ostensibly the same 2 voices with varying degrees of latex noses and ears added to mask the fact. I remember that awful Help programme with Chris Langham, same thing really.
Harry is slightly more ascerbic in my view, and all the funnier for it.

Armstrong and Miller on the other hand were almost an underlining of the fact that Paul (if not Harry) is a one trick pony, and sadly I've seen the trick one time too often. Their characters are a lot broader, not so bent on getting a laugh sort solely via the makeup box and a fruity hordle, the writing is pretty good, and are in my mind, generally funny. I laughed out loud a couple of times, as I do most times I've watched them.

Mitchell and Webb, not for me really. Gave them a go but didn't really laugh. Oh well...

I though the show was very poor. PW is now boring and Enfield hasn't been funny for about 15yrs. He certainly doesn't deserve a primetime slot (see also Lenny Henry).

Happy Birthday Daddy .... I love you!

who do they think laughs at that surgeon sketch ?which is on every show . in their prime these two had catchphrases that the ordinary guys in ordinary jobs loved to repeat to each other ,cant see the van and lorry drivers i work with doing that with their new stuff .theyre making " comedy" to suit their luvvie darling friends in hampstead or where ever ,a bit like french and saunders do

After watching a few episodes of their previous series, I was very surprised that this series was commissioned. I watched this first episode without laughing once. I think Enfield is the better actor, but their scripts are generally rehashed material from earlier shows.

Christ! At least Harry and Paul aren't Lenny Henry - maybe that was the choice ....how many series did licence payers pay for to prop up his failing career? Given the choice between Hale & Pace and Lenny I'd give H&P the nod! Alright, maybe not, but there clearly is no one the Beeb can buy who has made their names at Channel 4 right now....

Re the Polish cafe sketch, I know the taller girl on the right (who did most of the talking) is Laura Solon but is the other one Laura Patch??

There was no credited cast either at the beginning or the end!

Most young people I meet find them no longer funny, they seem to feel the need to try and be funny rather than in the early 1990's when they just where!

I havent seen this new programme so Icant comment. I always preferred Paul Whitehouse to Harry Enfield. When the Fast Show came along I thought it far superior to Harry Enfield and still do.

I liked characters like Smashy and Nicey but Kevin the Teenager got on my nerves after a bit and the oldgits always iriitated me.

I lost touch with Whitheouse after I saw a few episodes of that Happiness comedy series he did.

The end of the show was a voice over tribute to Geoffrey Perkins, their producer, by Enfield and Whitehouse.

Both really lost their way after their sketch shows came to a close, I could understand Whitehouse's desire to stretch himself into comedy-drama but Enfield's decision to continue on Sky One was virtual career suicide.

The problem with the new show is that it looks like they've read the Daily Mirror from front to back (politics, tv, celebs, sport) for inspiration because neither have their finger on the pulse. The foreign footballers sketch was especially lame as both did it better as Julio Geordio.

Very poor. I gave it 15 minutes but it was so unfunny I switched off. Pity, cos I do like a good laugh.

And there was I, thinking the show was rather funny! Particularly liked the Dragon's Den sketch.
