Default seaside special

Hi.

Can anyone remember the seaside special which was on around the late 70s early 80s? It was good Saturday night entertainment, those days are long gone!

Down the drain since the general public, especially those without talent, decided to have a go and embarrass themselves and the producers of these VERY boring and sad shows let them.

Fond memories of Seaside Special.

If they ever broght such shows back you can guarantee that it would probably be introduced by Ant and Dec.

Going back a few years prior to Seaside Special does anyone remember the old Rolf Harris show on a Saturday night with Rolf and his stylophone, The Young Generation and Koochie bear.

We also had Cliffs Saturday night show with Hank Marvin and Una Stubbs and who remembers Lulu's Saturday night show having comedy sketches where she would appear with actor Paul Greenwood who later starred in The Growing Pains of P.C. Penrose.

Itv had Leslie Crowther in the Saturday Crowd which also featured actor Dennis Ramsden who was the Dad in the Corn Flakes ads of the period (1968/69).

How could I forget our Cillas Saturday night show when she would turn up on the doorstep of unsuspecting families .

I remember Rolf doing a kids programme called Rolf on Saturday OK, which involved him going to different schools, even as a kid I thought this programme was awful, although I generally loved Rolf.

Mike Yarwood was another Saturday night legend, I remember he used to get Janet Brown on to do Thatcher in the sketches. What ever happened to him?

Seaside Special would be perfect for Same Difference from X Factor.

Mike Yarwood disapapeared from our screens in the early eighties I think, he did have some personal problems. His last shows were for Thames tv, in these shows he use to go to great lengths to dress up his as subjects.

But the BBC shows you mentioned showed Yarwood at his best. I think he has attempted at least one comeback, but what he's up to know I dont know.

Very happy to recall this show - mind you, I can't recall many acts on it, though wasn't ABBA famously featured in the show's Big Top once?
My most vivid memory of it as a happy 11 year was its catchy theme tune by Wombles man Mike Batt which sold brilliantly and reached no 2 in the charts.... here's a clip that I hope will work, of him doing it on TOTP

Wasn't there an attempt to bring back Seaside Special about 5 or 6 years ago?

I think it was shown on ITV - but was cancelled after only 2 or 3 episodes.

Was this the one that featured Kirsty Gallagher and the awful Phil Tufnel and had people doing 'its a knockout' type challenges or am I thinking of something completely different.
