Default TV series from the 70s or 80s

Can anyone put a name to a TV series, probably BBC - it was a sort of Sweeny type show but rather than involving the police it centred around the Customs and Excise at a waterfront of some type and was concerned with smuggling. I cant remember who was in it but my recollection was that the series was quite good..

Do you mean the 'Waterfront Beat'? Set in Liverpool starred Phillip Middlemiss and Brian McArdle

It wasn't either of those two - they are too new.

This series did not actually involve the police but rather Customs and Excise officers.

That's what The Knock is about.

"The Knock follows Her Majesty's Customs and Excise officers' lives and their efforts to hunt down the criminals trying to smuggle all sorts of contraband to the UK."
From IMDb

"Do you know why fattries are called fattries .... it's because they are big and people make things in them."

What about "The Collectors" from 1986 about the Customs and Excise around a small port.

Featured Peter Mc Enery, and ran for 10 episodes.

I'd forgotten that one .... it wasn't much like The Sweeney though.

I remember that show - an absolute horror that pretty well killed the TV careers of many of the people involved in it. The late Michael BIllington was a regular, and never worked significantly in the UK again.

Thank you for all your interest.

I accept your comments re the Knock but that title does not ring a bell whereas The Collectors does. I think the latter was the one I had in mind.

Not up to much? Well I suppose it is so long ago that it is difficult to now remember what it was all about.
