I have to say that Tarrant was marvelous on Tiswas, ocasionally he would do a filmed report on a serious subject and adopt a very serious persona. He was well equipped for this as he had been a reporter for ATV regional news.
I wasnt a great fan of OTT and the other adult style Tiswas shows, but I find it absolutely impossible to dislike the guy. I couldnt ever envisage Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, presented by anyone else other than Chris Tarrant. Last edited by bhowells; 18-09-2008 at 08:54 PM.. |

We musnt forget other Tiswas favourites like ex Scaffold member John Gorman, Bob Carolgees and Spit the dog and that very funny and wacky magician Clive Webb and wasnt there a guy on there whose speciality was singing Frankie Laines ,"Mule Train ." whilst whacking his head with a tray.

actually ive told a fib about tyne tees not screening tiswas ,they did ,the last series when chris tarrant had left [ it was rubbish ] he was replaced by a man who all i can remember about ,was that he wore a union jack suit jacket like pete townshend wore in the early days of the who . what was he called ? the sparkle had gone from the show completely by now

Does anyone remember Sally James presenting Saturday Scene on LWT ? the first Saturday morning TV show for kids in which Sally interviewed so many stars of the time Gary Glitter was one of them, they even released an LP (which I owned but not now :-( ) of her many interviews called Saturday Scene, believe it or not but Supersonic was part of Saturday Scene before becoming a show of it's own.

I'm sure my take on this will be familiar to many of my generation. My parents - particularly my mother - were very snobby about ITV which was considered to be a working class TV station whilst the beeb was nice and middle class. This impression was reinforced by saturday afternoon wrestling, wheel tappers and shunters, love thy neighbour and on the buses plus the blatant rip off nature of most ITV output (Magpie a Blue Peter rip-off, World of Sport a Grandstand rip off etc etc). Swapshop was so worthy whilst Tiswas was deliberately and proudly stupid. Consequently, I loved Tiswas and hated Swapshop mostly in order to annoy my parents.
