Default Swapshop versus Tiswas

I have been meaning to start this one up for ages.

Tiswas for me, I did watch Swapshop but as soon as Htv in line with many other ITV regions startetd to pick up Tiswas I was a Tiswas fan.

I used to love the look on the kids faces when they would be given cabbages as prizes.

Somoene is going to post some pictures of Sally James any minute.

Swapshop. It was Posh Paws that swung it.

If you insist.

As soon as I saw the subject my first thought was that Swapshop didn't have Sally James in it so it's no contest really

I always preferred Tiswas. It always had that anarchic edge to it.

I wonder if people who preferred Tiswas over Swapshop also preferred Magpie to Blue Peter. I did, again because it seemed more like telly made by cool older siblings rather than well-meaning aged aunts.

I used to tape Tiswas so my mates could come around to watch it after the pub shut on a Saturday nights. Turns out Central wiped most the shows which is a shame.

Swapshop for me. Tiswas was just too anarchic.

I remember there was a late night version of Tiswas called O.T.T.

I think towards the end of Chris Tarrent's time on Tiswas the show seemed to gain more of a adult audience compared to Swap Shop. Probably a lot to do with Sally James who was left to pick up the pieces when OTT started. I can't recall who was brought to replace the OTT lot as Tiswas staggered on for one more year.

I always liked it when Chris Tarrant and the gang would mention the fact that after the show they were going to go down the pub to have a few beers.

I liked Tiswas because it treated children like children and its heart was in the right place. It was wonderfully honest and completely unpretentious. It's staggering to believe that it had guests & presenters like Bernard Manning, Jim Davidson, Frank Carson, Michael Palin & Spike Milligan!!! It makes you realise how much the world and its attitudes has changed. I've never liked Noel Edmonds. Too smug and self serving. There's only one thing he's interested in - himself.

...Woke up one sock too many!

He's gone potty now hasn't he? Keeps going on about 'orbs' in the press.

Tiswas all the way for me - Saturday morning anarchy rather than lessons for budding entrepreneurs...

Tiswas - for the simple reason that Sally James was the cutest chick on saturday morning TV!

My God, Michael Palin on there, forgot he was on there, come to think of it Terry Jones might have been with him as well, lets not forget Lenny Henry. Never really a Lenny Henry fan but I couldnt resist his David Bellamy impersonation.

Your comments about Noel Edmonds are spot on, couldnt have put it better myself.

Does anyone remember that when Tiswas went off for its summer break, there were replacement shows. One such show was Saturday Banana with Bill Oddie. I remember he composed and sang the showstitle song. Dont think I watched it much but I recall one show when he had a panel of children discuss the film Saturday Night Fever, I think at the time a specially cut AA version had been released minus the sex scenes and the swearing.

It was all abit earnest and smacked of a classroom disussion but I did think at the time it was very bold of Oddie to make mention of such adult themes on a kid show he handled it very well.

Having said that though it obviously wasnt as much fun as Tiswas.
