Default Comedy playhouse what pilots do you remember

Iremember the pilot for Beggar My Neighbour in 1966, I was only six, later on I remember The Gordon Peters show a sitcom starring Gordon Peters, who was a comic on the Northern club circuit, didnt know about that, always assumed he was a BBC warm up man. His show only lasted six weeks he also turned up in Are You Being Served another pilot I recall and also Its Awfully Bad For Your Eyes Darling a very shortlived comedy with Joanna Lumley and Jeremy LLoyd.

Does anyone remember a pilot starring the singing group the Bachelors as labourers, sure I didnt dream it.

Steptoe and Son. Oddly enough I have just bought the complete series box set, and I watched the first ep last evening. That was a Comedy Playhouse.

I remember one called SITTING PRETTY written by and starring Nicky Henson and it was about someone inhertiting a house but unable to live in it because it had a sitting tenant. Itw as a very thin premise for a series and never got picked up. And I am old enough to remember the pilot of TILL DEATH US DO PART with Gretchen Franklin as Else.

I remember ITV trying to do something similar to COMEDY PLAYHOUSE. There was a show called HICKS AND STOKES with Rodney Bewes which was on there.

No, bhowells, you didn't dream it, I can remember that one, although not much in the way of detail. I remember two of them played quite flash lads, the other one was more the innocent abroad. Mildly amusing if memory serves.

One I do remember that never made it to a series was 'The Dirtiest Soldier in the World' based on a story by George MacDonald Fraser. Very funny and had a great cast; love to see that again.

Private McAuslan, the dirtiest soldier in the world, was the subject of three hilarious novels by George MacDonald Fraser. Highly recommended if you want to cheer yourself up.

Two spring to mind - the first starred the wonderful Irene Handl - the plot line revolved round her trying to steal a book from Somerset House to hide either her marriage date or children's date of birth.

The other starred Hugh Paddick and Betty Marsden as a couple of old fashioned actors it was in the same season that Are You Being Served was showcased and I much preferred the Hugh and Betty Show.
