Was I the only one to have a strange sort of schoolboy crush on the bespectacled, Players No6 - husky voiced Deidre Langton?

In fact my first threesome fantasy included her & Sybil Fawlty....& Jenny Agutter....wait! That's a foursome!

I was an ambitious kid.

Lay down on my couch Caine and tell us more.

Seriously though, I was in college with a bovver boot wearing staunch feminist who once shocked us all by telling us her first crush was Bill Oddie. (Goodie, goodie, yum, yum.)

I do know that Tricia in Corrie was Tricia Hopkins the daughter of a Welsh couple who were in the Street for a brief time. Kathy Staff played the Mother. They didnt take off as a family they all got written out execpt Tricia who stayed for a while and formed something of a double act with Gale.

Later on of course Gale had another best mate Susie Burchill, they were lodgers at Elsie Tanners place.

Stan Stennett appeared in Corrie and Crossroads, so did Johnny Briggs, Sue Nichols who plays Audrey was Marilyn Gates in the yearly years of Crossroads.

Kathy Staff was in Corrie and Crossroads. There must be quite a few more and maybe forum memebers can help out here. Another one I remember is Edward Peel, who was Stan Harvey, he was in Coronation Street for a very brief time many years after he left Kings Oak.
Lesley Daine was in both, and also Brookside, (and I believe was the sister in law of Tom Bell). Another multiple soap actress is Shirley Stelfox, she did both of these, Brookside, Eastenders, but is probably best known for her role as Edna Birch in Emmerdale, (and of course is the widow of Don Henderson).

Jilted John going on a date with Gail.

I've never understood what anyone saw in Gail; absolute moose.

My favourite character of all time is Stan Ogden.

I met him (BY) on Colwyn Bay pier. He seemed a very quiet, modest chap.

I used to like Albert Tatlock. I remember a scene when Ken Barlow and Aunt Edie were arguing over who was to look after him,as neither wanted responsibility and he can hear the conversation, with tears rolling down his cheeks. Alas, that is a fate some pensioners are faced with.

Those early years of Corrie were brilliant, well thought out and well played by outstanding actors. The early writers grappled with real everyday problems and the actors portrayed the innocent to such an extent that you "ached" with them or to some sense, even cried.

Who will ever forget Hilda crying when dear old Stan died and she was left holding a pair his of glasses at the end of the episode? Truly magnificent acting my Jean Alexander.

Ken's rage when he found out Deirdre was cheating with Baldwin, was outstanding. It even frightened Anne Kirkbride, who played Deirdre, that she was reduced to tears herself when Ken grabbed her by the throat, she was so frightened.

Those days are long gone and will forever live happily in the memories of those that were privileged to watch and enjoy.

I treated myself to the 1960s boxset of Corrie DVDs - they are wonderful to watch - if a tiny bit primitive by today's standards - but the writing is gloriously sharp and humourous - as are the performances - all brings back happy memories of childhood - and also reveals how the world has changed over the last nearly fifty years. How marvellous to have a continuing record of soap life - and also to know that it is still going great guns!

I liked Leonard Swindley (Arthur Lowe) as the manager of Gamma Garments, and Elsie Tanner and Emily Nugent's boss.
Wonderfully pompous and meticulous.

Long before the famous Baldwin and Deridree affair, Mike once said to someone in the Street,"which one's Deirdree is she the good looking one with the glasses," he obviously had his eye on her then.
