This is not meant as an insult in anyway. Penny Smith is my favourite early morning presenter. She's a great interviewer, has a great working relationship with John Stapelton and has a great persona.

Penny is also considerably more attractive than Bridget and more intelligent. It's just the fact she's not married, is roughly the same age as Bridget, does the same kind of job and has a wicked sense of humour.

I also because of her name find myself comparing her to Lady Penelope from Thunderbirds fame.

She grins inanely through all her news reports as if everything is just one big joke to her. She's self centred and attention seeking. Her attempts at humour are weak and she's not particularly attractive. I usually turn over when she comes on rather than watch her smug face and pathetic ramblings.

Rumor has it that Penny Smith is actually around 50 years old, although, to her credit she does look younger if she really is 50ish. Wasn't Bridget Jones only in her early 30s?

Off topic, but I just want to say that I think GMTV's news is a huge (unintentional) joke and the most dumbed down of all the bulletins on tv. If the world was to become on the brink of World War III, their main headline would still be about the exploits of some vacuous air-head celebrity (prime examples: The Beckhams, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Mr & Mrs Brad Pitt, to name just a few )

Couldn't agree with you more , working different shifts I watch daytime TV inadvertently while having my first cuppa , It's extremely patronising but nobody raises objections , maybe we shouldn't be serious until after Lunch

If you think Penny Smith is self centered, just watch BBC Breakfast and you will see the most conceited bunch of Females ever, especially the one called Sian Williams.

If she was a chocalate bar she would eat herself. It is embarassing to watch, as she preens herself like a Cheshire Cat, I have to switch over or hurl abuse at the screen. There is another one called Susannah Reid who is nearly as bad but not quite. Where do they get them from? It's all, me me me television. Pathetic.

True Penny is 49, but how old would Bridget be now. Penny I agree looks remarkably youthful for her age. It's almost astonishing she's never married!
