Default Shadows - Kids Tv Drama (Thames TV)

Ok,
I think this was a uk childrens drama.Probably 1970s maybe early 80s. May have been a serial or a single drama in a series or just a one off..! All i recall is children looking through a special window pane (one of those bulbous round ones you see in bay windows) and seeing into the past. (victorian or edwardian couples walking on the lawn etc) Certainly rather scary i remember.(One of the Victorian/Edwardian people 'noticed' the children and put his face close to the window pane. I have searched high and low for anything that might refer to this in vain. P.s. I didn't dream it!! If this rings any bells with anyone i would appreciate it.

Just possibly (though I'm not at all sure about this) it could be the 1972 film "The Amazing Mr Blunden" directed by Lionel Jeffries and starring Laurence Naismith

See The Amazing Mr. Blunden (1972)

it could, of course, be any of a myriad of other things!

Rob,
Good try, but no, i'm very familiar with 'Mr. Blunden'. in fact we used to have a screening of it at school every Christmas in the late 70s for some reason! But you're on the right track. This 'special window' thing i'm refering to was the main focus of the story. I must check out 'Mr. Blunden' again though now you've mentioned it.

How about Come Back Lucy (1978) ? Although Lucy did her time-travelling via a magic mirror, not a window...

She was sent to stay with her cousins and couldn't get on with them ; she found the mirror and escaped into Victorian times, with her cousin (Oona Kirsch ?) being left on the doorstep, looking out into the darkness and hence the title.

Another one with spooky faces at the window was LOST HEARTS, one of the Ghost Stories For Christmas strand, again 1970s.

Smudge,
This sounds like another interesting show (which i don't remember)from the seventies! Why were so many supernatural childrens dramas made in the seventies? (and why don't they ever repeat them?) My exstensive online research has led me to believe the show i am looking for is an episode of the 70s series 'Shadows' (1975) and this episode was called 'The Other Window' by J.B Priestley and Jacquetta Hawkes. Anyone else remember or have more info on this show?

In answer to your question Aaron, perhaps because the producers of the time cared about what they were doing, and TV wasn't then too prone to being one giant advert for big business ?

I don't know, but we certainly had some good stuff and some inspired writers creating it. I am certainly glad that I grew up when I did and I would love to see Come Back Lucy once again.

As for Lost Hearts, it can still chill my marrow even now...

Hello - Huraah, someone else remembers! For a while i thought this may have been a book - did you find out what it was? It was scary. I was just talking to one of my old school friends today - it seems half the kids programs that were on in those days were terrifying! Sapphire and steel for example!

ESCAPE INTO NIGHT (1972) sprung to my mind - a seriously scary children's show that scared the crap out of me at the time! A young sickly girl who sketched a house using a crayon, then when she fell asleep she ended up in the alternative reality she had drawn. Made into a very substandard movie called PAPERHOUSE (1988).

Talking of scary - as an adult I've always found Sapphire and Steel deeply disturbing!

As i say, i'm now satisfied that the show was 'shadows' which was a Thames tv childrens series which had three series' running from 1975-78. This episode was called 'The other window' by J B Priestley & Jacquetta hawkes, shown on 15/10/75.
Gwyneth Strong (Cassandra from 'Only fools & horses') and Sophie Ward were apparently in this episode....I'm still trying to track it down!!
Here's a reminder of the series.... Click to enlarge

Ye Gods - it has to be. If not, then it's her twin. Looks as if she is also in top row, third from right and second row, far left.

Should be seeing her on Sunday and if I get the chance to ask her, I will

Tracked her down - played the part of Sue and it was broadcast on 24th September 1975.

Goes without saying, I would be interested in a copy.

I remember SHADOWS well, and THE OTHER WINDOW is the episode I remember most strongly and would most like to see again! Two kids look through the special lens their father puts on the window to see a sinister figure from the past reaching out to them ... really stuck in my mind. If you wish to haunt Ebay for it, the 30th August 1975 issue of Look-In has two stills from it; one in full colour!

Just joined this forum cos of googling Come Back Lucy!
For years I had this memory of following a series about a girl who looked into a mirror and went back in time. It almost drove me mad and nobody but me seemed to have heard of it - I was almost beginning to think I'd dreamt it or something. One day I remembered the words...come back Lucy, googled it and after a while found some info. It was initially a book by Pamela Sykes and was called 'Come Back Lucy.' (1973) It's out of print now...and believe me, I'm still looking! The U.S version is called 'Mirror of Danger' and probably easier and cheaper to get if you did want it. It was made into a series, possibly part of 'Dramarama' sorry can't quite remember now, but I had this info off another forum and if I can find it again, will let you know. It hasn't been made onto VHS, some of the dramaramas were but not this one. I loved this programme but don't think I ever saw how it ended. I would love to watch it again. Yes there were some great spooky progs round years ago and somebodys mention of 'Shadows' sounds familiar too. I remember some prog about trees moving(walking), if that rings a bell with anyone, then please let me know.

Aaron, if I get any more info, I'll let you know.
