Cool

Couldn't remember much about the series apart from the gorgeous Greek style music.

I remember it being on UK GOld about 10 years ago. Was it about expatriates living in Greece - like a latterday Eldorado?

The Lotus Eaters was broadcast over 1972-73 and starred Ian Hendry and Wanda Ventham as British
ex-pats living in Crete and running a bar called Erics Taverna in Aghios Nicholious.

Stephen Grief also starred as the local police chief, Captain Krasakis.

The plots varied each week but the underlying theme- not made clear until near the end- was that
Eric was actually an ex-MI6 agent !

The series was almost single handedly responsible for promoting Crete as a major holiday resort and
nearly every bar in the place was renamed Erics.... The real bar used in the series became part of
the tourist circuit.

Yes I remember this series extremely "fondly" (it kept me going in 1973 a year after my wife walked out). I guess like others I could not resist falling in love with Wanda Ventham, and several years later I had a great week's holiday on Crete a lovely and interesting island we hirwd a car and I persuaded my frinds to drive to Aghios Nicholious, where IIRC the premises used for Eric's bar was now a ladies dress shop, (I bought a very nice Greek style skirt there for my then UK girlfriend although I suspect it did not please her as I never saw her wearing it!) Oh well can't win 'em all! i was so inspired by a visit to the ruins of Knossos that I even ventured into the fascinating museum in Heraklion.
Now "Harbottle "you hinted that you were hoping to get the series on video were you succesful? also Ollie you expressed an interest I would dearly love to watch this again so I will PM "Harbottle" to check directlyOr indeed if anybody has managed to get their hands on a copy please PM or email me at(fowlesjohn@hotmail.com).
Although I am now in America I have a superb digital PAL to NTSC video convertrer so the format is not important.
