Does anyone else remember Terry Scott playing a garden Gnome in the 1969 TV series "The Gnomes of Dulwich"? Although I was too young to realise it at the time, the series was supposedly a satire on the Common Market, with the new European gnomes from the neighbouring garden considered a constant threat.

From my searches I see that only six episodes were ever made. I wonder do any of them still exist? I doubt it.

Cheers,
A

I remember it but I was too young to know if it was funny or satirical or not. I remember Hugh Lloyd played the other gnome and I think they were pi ctured on the cover of that week's Radio Times.

I remember one episode where the gnomes were joined by some mass produced plastic gnomes from the far east. These were apparently very cheap quality and smelled badly when left in the sun. Didn't make them popular with the true blue British gnomes. (I can't believe I've just written that, but it's true, honestly). Don't know if that was satire or what.

You've got to be smoking some pretty powerful stuff to dream up a sitcom about garden gnomes (or even to watch it)!

I remember it well. Terry Scott and Hugh Lloyd were a good team - they were also featured in the long running sitcom 'Hugh and I', which ran, I seem to remember, from 1962 to 1967.
Happy days.

It was a series I enjoyed. I recall it being quite 'saucy'.

I remember this series simply because it was absolutely awful and so childlike six episodes were far to many !!! two grown men sitting round a garden pond with fishing rods dressed as gnomes defies sanity
