"I'm gonna be calling you guv all day long, it's all I know and it's all you need to know!!!"
Shouting George of the Weeney in the Comic Strip - "Detectives on the edge of a nervous breakdown."

For anyone who hasn't seen that, it's one of the best episodes going of the Comic Strip where a celebrity detective chef is murdered and 70s coppers are called in to investigate. It's a piss-take of the Sweeney, the Professionals and Jason King. I love the scene with Jim Broadbent as the guvnor driving around in circles in his Granada screaming at the top of his lungs, "Guv, guv, guv...." Classic stuff
"I'm a 50 Guv a day man" and "you couldn't handle it could you Spanker" (renaming Jimmy Nail's Spender)
Classic Comic Strip.

I remember Ron Atkinson being appointed Man Utd manager and he said to the press, call me anytime.EXCEPT , when the Sweeney is on. What was the name of the physco in it a couple of times, he really did seem a hard man ???

George Sweeney, it came to me as I hit the submit button. Proper hard man in the John Bindon mould.

I saw a mention of the Paradise Club and Sandbaggers as better series and have to agree, whilst the Sweeny is great those two are so much better.

Also would say that Chancer is a superior series.....and to the poster (sorry forgot the name)who added a couple of US TV series to the list I would say they missed the best TV series ever to air even if it is American.....'The Wire'
Now that is a drama series that it will be hard to ever surpass. It is so good the first time I saw it I thought it must be British.

From what we've been exposed to here, "down-under", I've got to stick my oar in (pun intended) for When the Boat Comes In

This is war Wilson, not Sainsburys!

I've discovered it late (It was past my bedtime first time around) but Public Eye, with the wonderful Alfred Burke, is just astonishing. The good news is the next instalment of the DVD releases is in February.....

Bit of a Bay Window, what??
