My top picks in no particular order:
[b]Budgie
When The Boat Comes In
The Sweeney
State of Play
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
Callan
Out
Morse[/
Plus as Batman states; many more because although America has produced some really slick dramas these last few years, when our home grown drama is done to a really high standard; I for one don`t think it can be beaten.
Regards, Brigger

How about Danger UXB?

I was delighted when this series was released commercially. A great cast and convincing story lines, supposedly based on real life experiences of those times, can't think of a better wartime drama series than this one.

I would agree that the Sweeney was a great programme, appealed to just about everyone although I'm not an avid fan of the man's man and the attendant gratuitous machoism portrayed in most police series like this and the Bill.
However I am a big fan of the late John Thaw-I preferred Morse.
I was always more of a Callan and Public Eye fan because they were loners.
Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy was another colossus.
They're all damn fine though.

Can't get it down to 5 but my suggestions would be:

The Prisoner
When The Boat Comes In
A Family At War
The Last Place On Earth
To Serve Them All My Days
Strangers And Brothers
Barchester Chronicles
Our Friends In The North
Days Of Hope
Upstairs Downstairs

Anyone who doubts PUBLIC EYE's position in the top 5 TV dramas ever made should get hold of the coming release later this month and watch just one episode; THE MAN WHO SAID SORRY. It's basically just two actors onscreen for most of the time (Sir Alfred & Paul Rogers) and it is quite simply one of the best pieces of episodic television I have ever seen.

I am SO glad that Network have finally got the clearances together to release this series of the show - at last we can do away with our old bootlegs and downloads and enjoy these brilliant stories properly....

I think I have asked this question before on another topic that I cannot now recollect.

Which series of Public Eye would you suggest as being the best?

I have not seen the series for donkeys years but am tempted to check it out again.

Cheers

Dave.

Start with the earliest available, Brighton-set series. Not because it's better than the others, but because having seen it, you will want the others, and at least you have kept it chronological.....

The series appears to have maintained a high standard of writing and performance all the way through it's run. Having watched the b/w ones that are on the dvds as extras and all of the dvd box sets one cannot IMHO say which is better, they are all excellent. I am looking forward to the new release 'cos I have seen very few of those episodes.

Thanks guys.

The DVD's of the series are not yet available in Australia.

Anyone know which UK outlet is selling the cheapest Public Eye DVD's?

Cheers

IIRC the last two sets were web exclusives...ie, you get them from the makers, Network, and nowhere else.

This new set is, as penfold says, only available from Network. You can get the other sets via the usual suspect but Network's own price is competitive ... £19.99 for each of the first two, £29.99 for the new set.

Network DVD

The first two P EYE series may be even cheaper at Sendit.com - Buy DVDs, Games & Electronics - FREE UK & Ireland Delivery - they've been having a bit of a Network promotion for a while now...

Thanks again guys.

I checked out Sendit.com and they currently have Public Eye series one priced at 13.89 and series two at 16.89.

I placed my order for both today.
Hope the series are as good as you guys say they are.

Cheers

Dave.
