On the over-acting stakes it came out strong with excellent over the top performances by Anthony Andrews as the lazy, idle, alkie aristocrat, and the bloke who played the Anthony Blanche camp pantomime dame/Elizabethan fop character. Awful to watch and I'm quite disappointed as everyone has been raving about it for the past 27 years! Pisshead Revisited would have been a better title.

When the serial 'Quatermass and the Pit' was repeated in 1960 (?) I managed to see a few bits of it and it scared me witless. Since that time I've had a fascination with the whole Quatermass 'thing' and I was over the moon when a 3-disc set of restored Quatermass was released.
To produce this stuff live in the 1950's was a towering achievement and I reckon each one of them was a landmark, especially Pit. Others on my must-see list are The Sweeney and The Singing Detective, which is one of the most unusual and intriguing serials I've ever seen. |

Come on guys lets get real. 25 years I've been waiting for a TV series that comes even close to being as good as Widows and still nothing does . I've watched it so many times I know the words (to the annoyance of my family) and every time I watch it it gets better and better. If I'm ever stuck on a desert island as long as I've got my widows DVD's with me I won't be in any hurry to send out an SOS.

House Of Cards
To Play The King The Final Cut The late great Ian Richardson was stunningly brilliant in all these. The Sweeney Sherlock Holmes - with Jeremy Brett Although not strictly a drama series, nonetheless I'd like to nominate Minder. |

Brideshead Revisited is a real classic of UK TV. Not only does it tell a long and rather complex tale in an accessible and thoroughly entertaining manner, it contains some excellent acting, writing and direction.

In fifty years of watching television, if you told me that I had to choose one series above all others, I would have to choose - Minder.
Beautifully written, directed and written. |
